Reception Number ELG Activity Challenge Cards
***46 roarsome number challenge cards for you to use in your areas of provision! A blank set of challenge cards is also provided, plus certificates to celebrate the children’s achievements! Great for weaving maths into all of your areas of provision!
The challenges cover counting, number recognition, number ordering and writing, more/less, 1 more and 1 less, addition, subtraction, doubling, halving, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
*The challenges cover the UK Number Early Learning Goals/40-60 Months DM
*The challenge cards should be printed out and placed in a stand or photo frame.
*You may want to use 1 or 2 of the challenges per week, depending on the needs and abilities in your class.
*You should show and explain the challenge(s) to your class. Then place them in your maths area for the children to complete, next to the resources required to complete the challenge.
In addition to the cards, you will need commonly found classroom resources, such as number cards, dice, number spinners, number lines, cubes, counters, blocks, pegs and pegboards, beads, pompoms, dominoes, timer, addition/ subtraction cards, etc.*

**FUN, hands-on activity for teaching 1 more and 1 less than numbers to 5, 10, 15 and 20. Included are 10 differentiated charts, number lines and ‘show me’ windows! Teach children to search for 1 more than a number, 1 less than a number or both with this alien-themed activity! **
This activity can be used for a whole-class introduction, as a guided group activity or in your maths area. Just print and laminate the charts. To make the Show Me windows, laminate and cut around the frame, cut out the square/rectangular box in the middle and then place over a chart to search for numbers! Subtract by Counting Back Number Line Activity
Make subtraction a whole lot of fun for your class with this engaging maths activity! Subtract within 10 using the fold back tabs. Children can count the remaining images or count back using the number line. Perfect for your maths lessons!
You could:
Laminate each sheet and snip along the dotted lines to make a hands on activity. Children work from right to left to fold back the correct number of images. They could either use a whiteboard pen or magnetic numbers to show their answers. For the mixed subtraction within 5 and within 10 sheets, children will need to begin by putting up the correct number of images and then work from right to left to solve the subtractions.
Print out the sheets and use them as evidence of pupils’ learning. They (or you!) would just need to snip long the dotted lines before solving the subtractions.
Included are:

Number Recognition Activity
Teach your class to recognise numbers to 20 with this fun maths activity! Children should say the number as they drive their toy car past the sign and then count the number of birds in the picture. This number recognition activity will ensure FUN hands-on learning for your maths lessons!
The following are included in colour and b/w:
21 number road mats (numbers 0-20): children should drive their toy car along the road from left to right. When they reach the sign they should say the number. Children can then count the number of birds in the picture.
Number car flashcards (4 pages). These could be used for assessment purposes or children could match them to the correct road mats.

**Use this doubles and near doubles activity to develop fact fluency within 10 and 20! There are 3 levels of difficulty to ensure that your lesson is differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils. Your class hunt for doubles addition cards (and near doubles for more able children) and then fill in their differentiated recording sheets. Simply print, cut out and laminate the cards and then hang them around your classroom!
